"This qualitative study involved in-depth interviews with 15 never-married women. Grounded theory analysis was used to derive an understanding of their family experiences. During open coding, 195 concepts, 47 sub-categories, and 16 categories were deduced, and during axial coding, relationships within categories were developed. Results indicated that the family experiences of never-married women can be understood in terms of continuous stages: self in the family of origin attempts to separate from the family of origin self growth and creating a new definition of family, separate from the family of origin. The lives of never-married women were classified as family denial self questing admitting reality unstable and desiring marriage. The last step of the analysis entailed the development of a situational model for never-married women¡¯s individual and family relationships.
